Info
Kewanee Hospital has been serving our community since 1919. Our small, rural hospital has a core mission of "Improving the Health Care of Those We Serve." Located in west central Illinois, we have a long history of "friends and neighbors taking care of friends and neighbors." We are very proud of our strong community connection and look forward to many more years of dedicated and compassionate service. During our nearly 90 years of serving the Kewanee area, the Hospital has retained its community focus. We are keenly aware of the important role this Hospital plays in keeping our community healthy and ensuring access to many necessary health care services. On February 1, 2003, Kewanee Hospital gained the designation of Critical Access Hospital (CAH), a status obtained through the Medicare system and administered through the State of Illinois. CAH status allows for up to 25 inpatients made up of any combination of acute-care, critical-care, obstetric and swing beds. The CAH designation has allowed Kewanee Hospital to make plans for a very bright future. For nearly 90 years, Kewanee Hospital has kept pace with many innovations in health care. Today, we offer a 24-hour physician-staffed emergency department, critical care/intensive care, adult and pediatric medical surgical care, and a family birthing center. We also offer inpatient and outpatient surgical and rehabilitation services, homecare and hospice services, as well as a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. We operate a Family Health Clinic multi-specialty physician group, and our medical staff includes physicians representing a wide variety of medical specialties including: anesthesiology, cardiology, family medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, internal medicine, ophthalmology, radiology, and urology. Provision of these local services often precludes the need for our community members to travel to larger facilities located as far as an hour or more away. In planning for the future of our Hospital, we are also planning for the health care future of Kewanee and surrounding towns and rural areas. Our leadership team developed the following "Defining Statements" as a set of guiding principles. Stewardship of a precious community asset through responsible decision-making to ensure future viability and continued service to our community. Leading the Hospital into the future by establishing goals, plans and objectives that transcend time, individuals, patients, trustees, medical staff members, and administrations. Securing the Hospital's future by doing the right thing and by consistently demonstrating fairness, honesty, integrity, bravery and foresight. Devotion to a fundamental belief in providing service that exceeds expectations with unparalleled caring and compassion. Recognition that providing care to the community is an evolution and that maintaining the highest standards of patient care delivery is a never-ending process that involves the patient, family, nurse, and all healthcare providers. Embracing the future of our community and the role we play in keeping our friends and neighbors healthy and strong. Viewing learning as a continuous process that is essential to the growth and development of clinicians striving to deliver quality patient care. Assuring a culture of teamwork by promoting both individual and collective accountability. Leading collaboration within our community to support the effective use of all resources. Kewanee Hospital broke ground on a brand new healthcare facility on Friday, July 21, 2006. The project kicked off in August 2005. The City of Kewanee annexed the property at the corner of South Street and Midland Road, which will serve as the site for construction of the new hospital and medical office building. The new hospital and medical office building will be approximately 110,000 square feet and will include twenty-five private patient rooms. The facility is 85% percent complete and is scheduled to open on May 3, 2008. Grand Opening Preview events will take place in late April 2008.
