Kearny High School is a comprehensive public secondary school, which strives to present an integrated harmonious and continuous educational curriculum to students in grades 9 through 12. In this curriculum we attempt to develop in each person the capacity for self-worth and a willingness to participate responsibly and productively in society. We also endeavor to make our students aware that education is both a right and a privilege. The school as an extension of the community strives to create a supportive and stimulating environment that encourages sensitivity to cultural differences while providing for the maximum development of intellectual; ethical, social, motional and physical growth. Our student population consists of 62% White, not of Hispanic origin, 29% Hispanic, 2% Asian and 1% Black, not of Hispanic origin. Each person is considered to be unique and valuable with cares, abilities, aptitudes, attitudes, interests and needs. We recognize our obligation to assess student aptitude in order to provide curricular and co-curricular programs to accommodate individual interests and abilities. This process in enhanced by continually involving students and community in shaping the direction of the full educational program. Believing that it is necessary to promote citizenship, leadership and respect for all, we strive to make our students cognizant of significant local, national and global issues. We attempt to foster a concern that will lead them to seek solutions. The mission of Kearny High School is to enable every student to develop to the maximum of his/her learning potential in a safe and secure environment. The school will utilize the resources of the students, faculty, and administration, support staff, parents and other community members to foster a broad and balanced education. Every student will be provided with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in and contribute to, the American democracy of the 21st century. We believe that education is the key to success for both the individual and society. It is our belief that our students deserve a safe and nurturing environment in which to live and learn. We believe that the cultural diversity of our community should be utilized to shape healthy attitudes and behaviors and that acceptance and appreciation of diverse cultural characteristics are essential to personal and community development.
