Southern National Bank of Texas combines the rich traditions of the past with technology of the future to create a financial home for the residents and businesses of Fort Bend , Harris and the surrounding counties. Originally chartered under the name as Bellfort National Bank, the doors of 9000 West Bellfort first opened on January 15, 1985 . In 1989 the name of the Bank was changed to Southern National Bank of Texas to eloquently define the future direction that would focus on providing Southern Hospitality with each transaction. Land in the area now known as Sugar Creek, was acquired by the Bank in 1989 and the Board of Directors began dreaming of a building that would symbolize the dedication to history, education, quality, customer satisfaction and finance. An environment of Southern Hospitality was created by establishing an open door policy and a commitment to support the community. With this new direction, the first full-service branch was opened in Professional Building II of Memorial Southwest Hospital in October of 1990. Inspired by Thomas Jefferson,s Monticello, the Bank,s new headquarters located in Sugar Land celebrated a July 1995 opening, and not only gave the Fort Bend community a financial institution, but also provided a community gathering place. Among the building,s interesting architectural elements are a 100-year-old automatic vault door, Louisiana plantation pecan floors and the magnificent Jefferson Room which features a 35-foot domed ceiling and roundtable seating for twelve. The Washington Room, at the opposite end of the Bank lobby, features seating for 26 at a mahogany racetrack table and state of the art audiovisual technology. In 2000, we furthered our commitment to the community with the construction of a new branch, Uptown at Post Oak, located at 1101 Post Oak Boulevard . To continue the tradition of Thomas Jefferson, the design of Farmington was chosen. The original Farmington estate was built in Charlottesville , Virginia , prior to 1800,s. Farmington shares the octagonal wing, Chinese fretwork on the rooftop balustrade and the circular windows characteristic of Monticello . Our Farmington boasts a black-and-white marble front porch, antique coach lamps from authentic horse-and-buggy coaches and a safe deposit vault door dating in the 1800,s. The Longleaf Pine Floors in the lobby came from a turn-of-the-century cotton warehouse on Galveston Island . Community rooms at Uptown include the Morris Room that seats 22 at a mahogany racetrack table and state of the art audiovisual technology, as well as a Cellar which will seat up to 50 people. In October 2002, Jefferson once again inspired the building ,Poplar Forest,, on our Sugar Land campus, which houses The Museum of Southern History, as well as two community rooms: Jefferson,s Dining Room and The Joella Morris Library. In October 2004, we began an expansion into the Katy community by acquiring an existing location in downtown Katy at 5733 Second Street . The Old Town Katy branch was renovated in 2000 by Robert Dame, and was inspired by the historical financial institutions from the early 1900,s when the Katy business district was established. The original building, approximately 22 years old, has served the downtown Katy community as various financial institutions, a property management company and always a mainstay in the local business community. The 1900 financial institution look continues in the Katy lobby with the mahogany teller line, wainscoting, block paneling and crown molding. The walls are adorned with wonderful, historical photographs of the downtown Katy business district in 1900. This prime location boasts a community room that seats 20 overlooking downtown Katy. Southern National Bank looks forward to opening a second branch in the Katy community near Cinco Ranch during 2006. With a vision for the future, we recently began construction on Phase I: The East Lawn on our existing Sugar Land campus, allowing for growth of the bank into the future. In an effort to continue the Jeffersonian influenced theme, the master plan for this section of our campus will house historically inspired buildings from the University of Virginia ,s Lawn including six Pavilions and a Rotunda. Phase I is scheduled for completion in Fall 2005. On behalf of the Board of Directors and Employees of Southern National Bank of Texas , we are proud of the bank we are and are excited about our future. We welcome the opportunity to serve you and invite you to join our bank family.
