Info

The National Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC) was established by Jim Lindell to provide support and continuity of vital training to the law enforcement community. It is dedicated to providing officers with dynamic training in handgun/long gun retention and disarming (HLGRD), safe lateral vascular neck restraints (LVNR®), and a complete control/defensive tactics trainer certification program. Jim Lindell is a combat veteran of the Korean War and served for 23 years as Supervisor of Physical and Defensive Tactics Training for the KCMO Police Department. He was an Executive Board member of the American Society of Law Enforcement Training (ASLET) from 1987 to 2000. Jim Lindell developed the LVNR® System in 1970, while Supervisor of Physical Training for the KCMO Police Department Academy. The system was medically researched and extensively field tested, and has proved to be safer, more effective and less controversial than any other known neck restraint method. The LVNR® was updated in 2002 with a new text and video. In 1976, he developed the Handgun/Long Gun Retention and Disarming (HLGRD) System in response to crime statistics indicating that in 1975, 20% of the officers killed were killed with their own handguns. The NLETC is the sole certifying body for these two systems. The foundation courses of the NLETC Control/Defensive Tactics program are the HLGRD System, which has saved countless officers' lives, and the LVNR® System, which has never caused a death, serious injury or any litigation in 35 years of use. This phenomenal control tactic has been in use longer than most officers have served in law enforcement. Both systems are internationally recognized as models of what a law enforcement program should provide for officer defense, control, safety and survival. The NLETC training programs include a comprehensive control/defensive tactics trainer certification program. Guest instructor courses include Trainer Development and Fitness, Ground and Weapon Defense, and Medical/Legal Issues. This broad-based, use-of-force curriculum is designed to improve knowledge of medical/legal implications, physical, tactical and instructional skills, making it easier to tailor training to specific agency needs. The principles and tactics presented in this program are easy to apply, easy to teach and are field effective because they are compatible with any other tactics or training that law enforcement officers will have previously received. The NLETC network, including the nation's top use-of-force trainers, is available to conduct any of the courses presented in this schedule. Agencies that sponsor a regional NLETC Systems Seminar may send a number of trainers to the course at no cost, depending on class size. You may contact National Trainers in your region or NLETC headquarters for information. See the list of National Trainers here. We invite your trainers to become certified to teach your officers how to protect their weapons and to control subjects safely and effectively with proven life-saving, dynamic techniques. It is our mission to provide training in safety, defense, control, arrest, and survival tactics for law enforcement officers across the nation.
