Established in 1995 through funding from the Margaret Hall Silva Foundation, Grand Arts is a not-for-profit contemporary art project space and studio located in Kansas City, Missouri. Grand Arts provides financial, technical, and logistical support to artists while encouraging conceptual risk-taking and experimentation at all stages of the creative process. Few institutions within the United States can match the unique support we provide to local, national, and international artists. Our program began with a core group of energetic individuals with a wide variety of experience in the arts, and we take pride in our ability to tailor our program to meet the specific needs and goals of each artist. While participating artists are welcome to reside at Grand Arts during the duration of their project, this is not a requirement, and therefore Grand Arts is not a residency program. Grand Arts' facilities consist of exhibition spaces, a fully equipped fabrication studio, offices, and an on-site apartment for visiting artists. Our facilities were designed for maximum flexibility, and we can accommodate a wide range of formats, sizes, and media with equal grace. Grand Arts' professional staff is available for technical assistance, and when projects can not be carried out in-house, we arrange for necessary support from the local community and beyond. Grand Arts aims to involve the Kansas City community in our programming. As a venue for artwork which may not be available elsewhere in Kansas City, we offer visitors a comfortable environment in which to meet artists and observe them at work. The public is invited to attend opening night receptions and visit during regular gallery hours. For most exhibitions, the artist is scheduled to give an informal gallery talk at 2:00pm, the Saturday following the opening reception.
