Dr. Liya Gebru is a Hoosier in the greater Indianapolis area with a strong commitment to improving community health and access to care. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences with a minor in Biology from The Ohio State University. Here, she developed a solid foundation in human health, disease prevention, and interdisciplinary care. Following undergraduate studies, Dr. Gebru continued her education at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. During her third year of dental school, she began to focus more intentionally on the social determinants of health and the barriers that prevent individuals and families from accessing essential dental services. She worked very hard to complete a Master's in Public Health with a concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the IU Fairbanks School of Public Health while still pursuing her dental education .
