Southern Ute Community Action Programs, Inc. is one of the largest and most accomplished non-profit organizations on the Western Slope of Colorado. Founded 40 years ago by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, SUCAP has grown into a dynamic entrepreneurial organization dedicated to its mission:SUCAP promotes the well-being of families and neighbors through social, educational and economic growth. SUCAP provides services to all persons in the Ignacio area, regardless of race, ethnic origin, religion, or any other group characteristics. SUCAP is a major employer. Over 175 staff serve the community through SUCAP programs. SUCAP is organized into six program divisions:· Southern Ute Montessori Head Start and Early Head Start (child development programs)· Peaceful Spirit (alcohol and substance treatment for adults, teens and families)· Ignacio Senior Center (nutrition, wellness and extended independence)· The Training Advantage (job training programs in 11 Southwest Colorado counties)· Youth Services Division (alcohol and drug prevention through FUN)· Road Runner Transit (public transit connecting Ignacio and Bayfield with Durango)Sometimes SUCAP's administrative offices will direct programs creatively categorized under· Other programsSUCAP is governed by a 14-member board of directors following the Community Action Programs model.
