Info

I'm Ready Productions was founded by Je'Caryous Johnson and Gary Guidry. They remain the visionaries behind its growth, and the talent behind its theatrical productions. Je'Caryous Johnson, at the age of 28, Mr. Johnson has over 12 years of experience in the performing arts. He trained with such theater masters as Jose Quintero, Uta Hagen, Edward Albee, Dr. Sidney Berger, and C. Lee Turner. He wrote, directed and produced theatrical productions since his mid teens. Harlem Renaissance , then 19-year-old Johnson wrote, directed, produced and starred, won the first place medal at the Kennedy Center 's National History Competition in 1996. An accomplished actor, Johnson has performed in more than 50 productions including drama, musical theater, commercials, and feature films. In 1997 he performed for President Clinton at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and received the Irene Ryan Award for Excellence in Acting for his performance in the role of Lyons in August Wilson's Fences. Trained in contemporary and classical theater, Johnson experienced and learned the best of both worlds. These roots, in both classical and urban theater, distinguish I'm Ready Productions from other theater production companies. Johnson seeks to counter the trend towards "sit-com" theater with productions like Heaven's Child, which grapple with complex personal, social and moral themes. "We formed I'm Ready Productions, to teach and change people for the good through theater," explains Johnson. "We wanted to do Shakespeare as well as [August] Wilson . We felt the need to perform diverse works with excellence, to make a statement with our work. We also write and produce educational plays, which we call ‘Theater for the Living,' where we teach young adults to deal with social issues like peer pressure, substance abuse, child abuse, rape, and sexually transmitted diseases." He attributes his success to "faith in God, staying grounded and a solid technical foundation in my craft." While attending Prairie View A&M, Johnson learned how to utilize his emotions, and at the University of Houston he learned the essence of analysis. "Now, that's a perfect combination," Johnson offers. Mr. Johnson serves as Chairman and CEO of I'm Ready Productions and directs its theater production operations. Gary Guidry, 32-years-old, has more than 15 years of professional experience in the performing arts. A child prodigy on the drums, at age 6, Guidry was invited to play with local high school bands. By age 10 he was playing with professional jazz musicians. He later won state competitions on the trumpet, and has performance-caliber proficiency on eight different instruments. He studied music at both University of Houston and Texas Southern University where he also minored in business. In addition to his academic training, he has written, arranged and scored music for numerous musical theater productions, including Heaven's Child, Ain't Misbehavin', Men Cry In the Dark, The Maintenance Man, and Friends and Lovers. Today, Guidry puts this talent and experience to work in the studio. Guidry not only co-wrote, arranged and performed the music for Men Cry in the Dark, The Maintenance Man and Friends and Lovers, but produced the sountracks as well. Guidry has worked with some of the music industry's finest talent such as Grammy Award winner Regina Belle, Brian McKnight, Syleena Johnson, Christopher Williams, Monifa, Rhona Bennet, Alyson Williams, and R&B group H-Town. "I try to surround myself with the best," says the talented Mr. Guidry. Recognizing the role that music plays in African-American life, from the street to the home to the church, Guidry brings music to I'm Ready Productions. "Our unique contribution to theater, especially urban theater, stems from our commitment to provide both substance and excellence. We offer our audiences a diverse repertoire of musical theater works produced, written, and performed by top industry talent." Guidry serves as President and COO of I'm Ready Productions and directs its music production operations.
