16850 Park Row, 77084 HoustonContinental Carbon Company was founded in 1936 between R.I. Wishnick, Continental Oil and Shamrock Oil & Gas. The first plant started production the same year in Sunray, Texas. In 1954, a second plant started production in Ponca City, Okla. A third plant located in Phenix City, Ala. was started in 1969. In 1995, Witco sold Continental Carbon Company to China Synthetic Rubber Corporation (two-thirds ownership) and the Taiwan Cement Corporation (one-third). In 1998, Phenix City plant doubled in size when 100 MLbs. of new capacity came on-stream. In 2000, Continental Carbon Company established Continental Carbon India, Ltd. near New Delhi, India.
