Language Analysis Systems is a privately held company, founded in 1984 by Dr. Leonard Shaefer and Dr. Jack Hermansen. The company was the product of their extensive research and analysis of the linguistic and computational properties of personal names, based on their work at Georgetown University and as consultants to various U.S. Government agencies and technology firms. Dr. Shaefer and Dr. Hermansen are widely regarded as two of the most knowledgeable people in the world working on name related issues. Prior to 2002, LAS primarily provided consulting services and custom software development support to U.S. Intelligence and Border Patrol agencies, two of the most demanding name matching environments imaginable. In 2002, LAS launched a series of commercial products that, for the first time ever, made hundreds of man-years of research and linguistic knowledge in the name recognition field available to government and commercial customers via automated software products. Today, LAS is focused on supplying its multi-cultural name recognition products to international government and commercial clients with mission-critical name matching problems. Our name recognition technology is the first patent-pending technology in the name-matching field since the Soundex algorithm was patented in 1922. Our market leading products are now installed in more than 200 countries around the world supporting a variety of mission-critical applications.
