InfoEther, Inc. is the creator of indi. The company was formed in 2001 by Rich Kilmer and Mark Gardner to develop one of the first semantic software engines which manages object data in context. The company performed DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) research for several years until taking on both private and venture investment to develop indi in 2005 which utilizes the company's semantic software engine. InfoEther is a leading Ruby and Adobe Flash developer and investors include the founders, angels and the Inflection Point Ventures fund. Founder Rich Kilmer is well-known in the Ruby development community both as an open-source contributor and speaker and as a Board member of the non-profit Ruby Central. InfoEther runs the Ruby Forge site on behalf of Ruby Central which is the source of thousands of Ruby projects and is the main download point for the popular Ruby-on-Rails Web development framework. Rich was previously the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Roku, one of the first peer-to-peer software companies. Another co-owner of the company is Tom Copeland who was named the first "Open-Source Developer of the Year" by Oracle Magazine in 2003 for his creation of PMD, a Java code analysis tool that was listed in the Top 27 Open-Source projects in the world by Software Development Magazine. Tom leads InfoEther's Ruby-on-Rails application development which provides the coordinative capabilities for indi on the desktop.
