Tanner made his second attempt in 1986, starting Tanner Van Lines with three trucks and a 6,000 square- foot warehouse in Mechanicsville. We put trust in God, luck and somebody's old truck. Today, Tanner Van Lines has 20 trucks. Up to 60 people work for the company during the busy season, while 25 to 30 are employed during the rest of the year. It has a Warehouse capacity of 53,000 square feet of storage space and a 2,400-square-foot office. In 1995 Marie Tanner in started Tanner International Forwarding Inc. with the acquisition of L.A. Sherrield Transfer & Storage in Petersburg. The company has a 25,000 square-foot warehouse on Bollingbrook Street in Petersburg Virginia.
