Founded in 1910, The University of Southern Mississippi was recently recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a "Doctoral/Research Extensive Institution." The School of Polymers and High Performance Materials, housed in a $23 million center that was built and equipped with funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is one of the world's leading institutions for the study of material sciences.
