Established in 1926, Theatre Harrisburg (formerly known as Harrisburg Community Theatre) is one of the 25 oldest community theatres in the nation. In 1999, the company changed its name and began presenting its Mainstage Productions at the beautiful Sunoco Performance Theatre at Whitaker Center for Science & the Arts, while still retaining its former playhouse at 6th & Hurlock Streets as a rehearsal studio, an office complex and a production center. While Theatre Harrisburg strives for "professional" excellence, thanks in great part to the efforts of its professional staff, it remains committed to the volunteer-driven spirit of community theatre, offering the many talented citizens of South Central Pennsylvania a showcase for their talents, a chance to learn or polish theatrical skills and essential opportunities for self-expression. What is a Mainstage Production? Theatre Harrisburg currently mounts 5 major productions (3 musicals and 2 plays) each season-these comprise our Subscription Series and are referred to as Mainstage Productions. In 2007-08, we are offering our audiences a new concept: Theatre Harrisburg performing in two locations! Our Mainstage musicals will continue to appear in the grand, state of the art Sunoco Performance Theatre of Whitaker Center, while our Mainstage non-musicals will be taking off in new directions, with increased intimacy, at our Krevsky Production Center on 6th & Hurlock Streets. The staff of Theatre Harrisburg is already enthused about the creative opportunity of staging two plays in environmental fashion, with performance and audience spaces reconfigured according to the unique needs of each play. In addition to the Mainstage Series, Theatre Harrisburg will offer a number of smaller productions in its newly inaugurated "Krevsky Center Series." The latter will consist of 3 weekends of cabaret entertainment and an adventurous, Off-Broadway musical called Tick, Tick . . . Boom! All of the events in the Krevsky Center Series will occur at the Krevsky Production Center. Join us in either location-downtown at Whitaker Center or uptown at the Krevsky Production Center-for memorable evenings of entertainment!
