Info

Ravalli County Bank was founded in 1895 by Marcus Daly, a historically significant business pioneer (one of the three "Copper Kings"), who owned many companies throughout Montana including the bank, several newspapers, retail stores, saw mills, and the Anaconda Mining Company. He also developed a world-renowned stable of fine racing thoroughbred horses. His mansion still stands today east of town and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Ownership of the bank has remained in local hands except for a few brief years in the early 1900's. Historical documents preserved in the bank's vault show the ownership changed several times over the years until L.N. and Evagene Shonkwiler purchased it in 1966. In 1983 their son, Chuck Shonkwiler, was elected president and remains so to this day. Historians have written:"The Bitterroot Valley is where Montana got her start due to the early efforts of pioneers like Father Anthony Ravalli. Following in his footsteps, Marcus Daly helped shape the future of the Bitterroot Valley and the State of Montana as we know it today". In this same spirit, the men and women of Ravalli County Bank are dedicated to continuing the legacy of Marcus Daly-serving the financial needs of our community for generations to come.
