CHI Research, Inc. is a highly focused research consultancy internationally recognized for its leadership in the development and analysis of technology and science indicators. Formed in 1968, CHI pioneered the development of science and technology citation analysis. Working with the U.S. National Science Foundation, CHI developed the first national-scale bibliometric indicators of scientific performance in the early 1970s. Since then, CHI has produced all the literature-to-literature, patent-to-literature and patent-to-patent citation indicators ever used in the congressionally mandated Science and Engineering Indicators reports published by the U.S. National Science Board. In the 1980s, CHI extended the use of science citation analysis techniques to include patent citation analysis for corporate competitive intelligence, technology tracing and other analyses of industrial technology. CHI's patent citation consultancy centers on a set of databases developed over many years with millions of dollars of investment. Our high value added databases incorporate post-issue patent reassignments and are extremely clean, with hundreds of thousands of standardized company names, more than a million unified non-patent references, and an advanced set of patent citation indicators invented by CHI which are rapidly becoming a standard in the field.
