Crocker Communications is now able to offer stac compression to those dialing in to our new 56K lines.Stac compression is most useful when downloading un-compresssed data ( e.g. Web pages , text documents , e-mail ) and can greatly increase download speeds even on non 56k modems.STAC compression is not hardware compression built in to your modem , it is compression done by your operating system.Since this is the case , slower computers may find that enabling STAC actually slows_down their internet connection due_to their processor not being able to keep_up with the compression.
