The Great Meadows School District is committed to providing the tools needed for our students to be productive members of the 21st Century. Our district includes two K-4 elementary schools and a new 5-8 middle school. Each classroom is equipped with at least one computer with an accompanying inkjet printer. Some classrooms have multiple computers. Liberty and Central school have additional computers for use in each school library. The middle school library is equipped with 10 additional computers for use in small group instruction or for research purposes. All schools have a computer lab to handle larger groups. The middle school also has a technology education lab. All three schools are connected for networking purposes. Liberty School is connected via a fractional T1 line. Central School and the middle school are connected via a fiber optic cable. The network consists of 5 file servers and approximately 250 workstations. All computers have internet access through the network. In addition all staff and faculty members have e-mail accounts. The network also includes 9 networked laser printers and 3 CD-ROM towers. The middle school also has an automated library system with search capabilities from each workstation and a computerized school management and grading system. Additional peripheral devices are available in each school including scanners and digital cameras. Every classroom is equipped with a 27 inch television with cable access. Every classroom television can also be used as a large screen computer display. All schools also have a centralized media source which allows for the broadcast of video to all classrooms. Each school is equipped with a voice mail telephone system. Every classroom has a phone and all faculty members have voice mail accounts. The middle school also offers a cycle class instruction in technology education. The school has a special room designated for technology education instruction and contains state of the art modules in topics such as robotics, biomedicine, animation, digital sound, aerodynamics, as well as many others. In an effort to provide the best educational use of the available technology, teacher training is offered on a regular basis. Many after school activities involving the use of technology are also offered for the students. The district also employs a full time technology coordinator with responsibilities for overseeing the educational technology program. Each school also has a teacher designated as a technology specialist whose role is to assist the other teachers in technology implementation. A full time technician is responsible for repairs, maintenance, and upkeep as well as general troubleshooting. The district also takes an active part in the county technological planning and implementation. Teachers and administrators serve on various county committees and work to coordinate the use of technology with other local school districts.
