Chestnut Mountain Resort
Hotel
Info
Chestnut Mountain Resort was built in 1959 as a small ski lodge with a handful of runs and no guest rooms. Lodging and dining facilities were added in the early 1960's and again in 1971. In the late 1980's, we embarked on a 15 year multi-million dollar expansion and renovation program that brings Chestnut to where it is today. Chestnut is currently rated as one of the Top Ten Ski Resorts in the Midwest by Ski Magazine and the #1 Rated Ski Resort in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin. Chestnut Mountain Resort, which is tucked away in the unglaciated hill of Northwest, Illinois, has long been one of the Midwest's most popular resorts. Located high above the Mississippi River, just 8 scenic miles from historic Galena, Illinois, Chestnut Mountain Resort is truly a skier and snowboarder paradise. With 19 trails ranging from beginner to expert, a 475 foot vertical drop, 1/2 mile runs, 5 chair lifts and 4 surface lifts, and a 7-acre terrain park with 2 half-pipes, quarter pipes table tops, kickers, and over 25 rails. Chestnut is without a doubt, one of the most diverse and complete facilities of its kind. Chestnut Mountain Resort's recently renovated main lodge with one hundred twenty rooms, makes our full service resort the perfect choice for everything from group and family trips to romantic getaways. Our Alpine and Steinhaus dining rooms offer contemporary and old favorite menu items, not to mention breathtaking views. If you're just looking for a meal between runs you can stop by our Slope Side cafeteria for a quick cocktail in the Three Gables Lounge. Chestnut Mountain also provides live entertainment and an electronic game room for your enjoyment.
