Dr. Dhawan received his medical degree at Seth G. S. Medical College. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then went on to complete an Internal Medicine Residency at University of Tennessee in Memphis. He then went on to complete a Post-doctoral Fellowship Vascular Biology and Atherosclerotic Plaque Imaging. He completed his Fellowship in Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
