Russian River Valley Winegrowers
Info
Russian River Valley Winegrowers are dedicated to protecting and enriching the region's sustainable agricultural community. It is our goal to nourish the agricultural diversity of our appellation and preserve its environmental resources, while maintaining the farming heritage of the region. Evidence of the support for a sustainable agriculture can be found in the Russian River Valley's winegrowing history and the organization's encouragement of civic involvement and education. By developing and participating in programs of voluntary compliance, Russian River Valley Winegrowers strive to meet high standards of land stewardship. As part of countywide efforts, RRVW members also work to address issues of erosion, water quality, and habitat protection. Results of these efforts include habitat restoration programs that have constructed owl boxes and restored ponds for Canadian geese, Resource Conservation District programs to develop farm management standards for protection of fish habitats, and efforts to protect watersheds and endangered species. As part of these efforts, Russian River Valley Winegrower members partner with Fish Friendly Farming to ensure that appropriate farming practices take place in the Russian River watershed. In a leadership role, the Russian River Valley Winegrowers sponsors its own educational program of Grower Seminars, which provide the latest information on viticulture and vineyard management to its members and the surrounding community.
