With consolidation, change of ownership and attrition thinning the ranks of large publishing houses in New York and elsewhere, too many good books were going unpublished. Books providing valuable information, books telling stories that transport readers, books filled with imagery and imagination borne of the soul and capable of touching that in readers. These talented voices would not be heard were it left to publishers dependent on minimum sales figures to cover overhead allocations and returns on equity. These books need to be published. They need to be printed and shipped and sold so that they may find their audiences, and do so without the added weight of supporting a corporate infrastructure so elaborate that product must constantly flow outward in massive quantities just to keep the lights on. We ask many things of our stable of authors at Champion Press, Ltd., but we demand only one: write a good book. When they do so (and they do with remarkable consistency), we'll work to get that book to its audience. No good book should fall like a tree in the forest, with no one there to hear its sound. And our devotion to our books and authors continues long after publication date. With 99% of our books still in print today, we actively market and promote in the years that follow a book's release. We don't throw books out there and "see what happens" -- instead, we make things happen. Of our readers, we ask only that they trust our intent. The tastes of our editorial staff will not always mesh with their own, but our readers can rest assured that if a book bears the Champion Press, Ltd. imprint, it was deemed to be of quality, to be of value and to be deserving of presentation. We would rather work harder to find new sales for our existing books of quality than release a marginal title for financial requirements. Take a chance with our books.
