Info

Oosting and Associates, Inc., founded in May 1987, has a client base over nearly sixteen years of 105 colleges and universities across the United States and Canada. We provide management and consulting services as well as curriculum to colleges and universities allowing them to begin nontraditional degree completion academic programs for adult learners (25 and older, two years of college completed, working full-time and with family responsibilities) to complete their college degree in a nontraditional setting at a college or university near where they live or work. With the growing emphasis on a college degree in most occupational groups, we help colleges find these adults through effective marketing and recruiting efforts even though a majority of these adults have had no prior contact with the institution. Employers provide tuition support for many adults and see their potential to help the employer increasing as they complete their bachelor's degree. In some cases the program is offered at the employer's site. A typical adult student in a program of this type is nearly 40 years old and either male or female. Most graduates of such programs state that the experience has transformed their lives and the contribution they make to their employer. Without this type of program most felt they had no opportunity to complete their degree. Small (under 4,000 students), private (most of them Christian) colleges and universities in North America have not historically served the adult population well and thus are not equipped through vision, finances or personnel to begin such a program as we provide without our support. We provide them with a plan to begin the program within five months (students actually in a classroom) using our Project Schedule which outlines 22 areas necessary to start such a program and outlines at two-week intervals what must happen during this five-month period under the direction of our staff member who is on site at the institution. Our copyrighted curriculum is adapted to each institution (the adaptation process is key to gaining faculty support) and then provided as camera ready curriculum during the five month startup period. We have approximately 100 copyrighted courses from which a college may choose. Curriculum experts meet with the dean and faculty to help make these choices. The full package of our services includes a feasibility study done before the college signs the final agreement in which we outline how the program should be marketed in that community if the program is approved. We have done this in communities as small as Oakland City, Indiana, and as large as Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia. Our follow-up services and the program evaluation (done at the time that the first group of students is ready to complete the program) are augmented by workshops we do for college personnel both in our offices and on college campuses. Further, we are always available for telephone, fax or e-mail consultations at no extra cost. Some clients elect to have us manage the program on an extended basis for such as two years renewable. In these instances we receive a larger portion of the program income to pay for the personnel we provide. The program staff in these instances are employees of Oosting and Associates. The client pays an initial fee with the rest paid as a percentage of the actual tuition the new program generates. The maximum amount they pay is dependent upon the majors selected and other services. Our team of fifteen people is experienced in providing the feasibility study; writing, editing, formatting and proofreading the curriculum; being the interim on-site manager; and providing answers to the myriad of questions that arise. We emphasize the building of trust in us and our work which is essential in the type of clientele we serve.
