The Franconia Ski Club was founded in 1933, five years before the Aerial Tramway was built. Roland Peabody, one of the founders and the Club's first president, foresaw the popularity of skiing and its importance to the area's growth, and spent his life bringing the sport he loved into other people's lives. The Club's Charter describes the objectives of the Club as "the social recreation and improvement of its members, fostering and developing outdoor sports such as skiing, skating, hunting and fishing; building and constructing trails and huts; arranging such other social and athletic activities as may be for the benefit of its members; and conducting skiing exhibitions and matches between its members and with other clubs." More than fifty years later the Club's mission has been refined to focus on junior race training as follows:·The mission of the Franconia Ski Club is to impart the joys of skiing and the life-long lessons of healthy competition to the children of its broad and open membership. ·The Club achieves its mission by providing thoughtful, caring and professional instruction in skiing and ski racing and by supporting and sponsoring all levels of NHARA and USSA junior racing. ·For its members, the Franconia Ski Club is a source of good fellowship borne out of common purposes and values and pride in the performance of its athletes. ·For the Club's athletes, FSC is a source of good friends, good fun, and the satisfaction that comes from learning to excel in sport. ·For Cannon Mountain, FSC is a partner in enhancing the Mountain's experience, image, financial performance and service to the people of New Hampshire. ·And for the greater Cannon Mountain community, FSC is a means to help their children learn the joys of skiing.
