Highsmith Inc., based in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, is a distributor of supplies, furniture and equipment to public, academic and special libraries, as well as schools and school libraries throughout the U.S. and abroad. Our commitment to education and information extends to our employees who are encouraged to choose from an innovative menu of wellness, health risk management and in-house education programs. Founded in 1956 by Hugh Highsmith, the company's initial catalog mailings to schools featured overruns of children's books. Today, we market over 25,000 products through more than a dozen speciality catalogs annually, including the 754-page Library & School Products catalog. Located in a rural setting, our corporate headquarters border a wetland nature preserve, and a one-mile walking path offers employees the opportunity to experience the beauty of this pristine location. Since moving to our present location in 1966, seven major building additions have been completed, including the expansion and automation of the warehouse operation, new office areas, a plant-filled atrium and a corporate library. The Highsmith Art Collection, works commissioned for the covers of our Library Catalog since 1978, is on display throughout the building.
