Info

Infiltec was founded in December, 1980 to develop air infiltration measurement and control technologies. The initial focus was on residential energy conservation, and the first Infiltec product was an instrument for measuring building airtightness (often called a "blower door"). Today Infiltec is widely recognized as one of the leading firms in building air infiltration measurement and control. The importance of air infiltration was first recognized in the 1970's when it was discovered that air leakage through building envelopes accounted for significant energy losses in homes, schools, commercial, industrial, and high rise buildings. Infiltec's patented, lightweight adjustable, and calibrated "blower door" was developed for the purpose of identifying and quantifying the building shell leakage. Today Infiltec blower doors are in use around the world, and the technology has found many other applications, including indoor air quality investigations, fire protection enclosure integrity testing, prevention of odor and sound transmission into and through buildings, smoke control, and the testing of safe havens in buildings. In addition to building test equipment, Infiltec provides worldwide consulting and research services. In 1986 Infiltec applied its building science expertise to solving the newly discovered indoor radon problem. Infiltec worked on many EPA research contracts and published many papers on radon mitigation in homes, schools and office buildings. Infiltec personnel have served on the EPA Science Advisory Committee. In 1995 Infiltec personnel worked in Russia to develop air infiltration control strategies for Russian apartment buildings. In 1996 Infiltec personnel provided training classes in Alaska on air leakage retrofit techniques in multi-family housing. Currently, in the Washington DC area, Infiltec provides services for indoor air quality investigations, and air tightness measurements. Since its creation Infiltec has been one of the pioneering companies in the science of air infiltration measurement and control. It has developed other advanced building diagnostic equipment such as micromanometers for building pressure balance investigations, digital blower doors, duct leakage testers, and air leakage test equipment for halon alternative fire protection systems. In addition, Infiltec provides radon control equipment to builders and radon mitigators. Today Infiltec provides a complete line of air infiltration equipment and services, including consulting training, measurement, and control. Its clients include state and local governments, the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, US national laboratories, electric utility companies and many Fortune 500 companies.
