Description of Maloney Reed Scarpitti & Company LLP
The firm of Maloney, Reed, Scarpitti & Company, LLP developed through a merger of two accounting firms: Maloney & Reed and James Scarpitti. In 1979, Mike Reed joined the firm of Maloney & Vickey as a partner. Maloney & Vickey had been established since December, 1973. The addition of Mike to the Baldwin Building office brought about a change to the firms' name. The firm was now Maloney, Vickey & Reed. Jeff Vickey left the firm in 1981. A couple of years later, the firm of Maloney & Reed and its two employees moved to West 8th Street. In 1984, the firm of Maloney & Reed merged with the accounting firm of James Scarpitti to form Maloney, Reed, & Scarpitti. Jim Scarpitti had a solo practice that originated in 1982. The neat thing about Jim was that he had established his practice in Edinboro and hence Maloney, Reed & Scarpitti now had offices in Erie and Edinboro. As the firm grew, so did the need for more office space. In 1986, MRS purchased their current office sites in Erie at 3703 West 26th Street and in Edinboro at 113 Meadville Street. Rick Clayton joined the firm as an accountant in 1987 and became a partner in 1993. Maloney, Reed & Scarpitti became Maloney, Reed, Scarpitti & Company. The Corry office on Enterprise Road was established and marked three offices for MRS in 1995. In March of 2001, the firm became a limited liability partnership (LLP). Today, our firm continues to grow.
