Felix Farm
Info
Felix Farm is driven to improve the U.S. meat goat industry through the use of advanced breeding practices. Currently the U.S. imports goat meat to supply a quickly growing demand. It is important for meat goat farmers and the U.S. economy to improve their herd characteristics in such a way that will enable them to meet demand while remaining competitive in the world market. Felix Farm's mission is to provide these farmers with the ability to improve their herds quickly in an economic way. To accomplish this goal Felix Farm is working with breeders and show competitors to drive down the cost of advanced breeding practices. Currently, drugs, regulation, and labor cost are commonly prohibitive factors for most commercial farmers, but these factors are quickly coming within reach of many registered stock breeders. By widening the use of advanced breeding practices Felix Farm plans to drive down the cost to a point that is economically viable for commercial farmers to take advantage of as well. There has been much advancement in goat breeding on the international front in recent years. However, there are still many goals that have yet to be viable options for commercial operations. Tools such as in vitro and in vivo fertilization, sperm & embryo sexing, embryo splitting, and nuclear transfer are on the horizon. Advancements such as these and many others will undoubtedly happen in due time. Felix Farm will continue to take successful research and turn it into viable breeding alternatives.
