Banks are financial institutions which the public use to make deposits of their money, and which can create credit. Bank branches allow users to open a bank account (usually a current account to begin with). Current accounts allow the setting up of direct debits which can be used to pay rent or bills. Banks then offer a variety of services, including lending which can be done through an overdraft, are allowing certain money to be spent on a credit card with a certain interest. People may also choose to open a savings account which has higher interest rates to make more use of their savings. ISAs are a popular choice. AS well as commercial banks, savings banks, merchant banks, and retail banks/ consumer banks are available. Also, Charity banks are independent banks which serve a social purpose such as providing loans to charities.
