Info

Pennwood was founded in 1942 by Newell E. Coxon Sr. and is located in East Berlin, Pennsylvania, USA. It began as a sawmill with two (2) drying kilns and woodworking equipment. The featured product at the time was wooden heels for ladies shoes. By 1950, Pennwood had expanded its product line to include picture frame mouldings. As the 1960s began, Pennwood Products came under new leadership. The presidency was handed down to Newell E. "Skip" Coxon, Jr. Pennwood Products was reorganized and expanded further into products such as kitchen cabinet moldings and cabinet parts. The 1970's brought another new product: flooring. Pennwood Products began manufacturing parquet flooring systems under contract with Arco Chemical Corporation. This product gradually evolved into Pennwood's twelve-inch, full-perimeter tongue and groove parquet flooring. The Parquet Flooring Division was sold in 1985 to PermaGrain Products. By 1980 Pennwood added another plant location and supplemented its product line with grandfather clock cases and miscellaneous furniture items. This plant was sold in 1990 to a Washington, D.C. furniture retail chain. This firm utilized the facility to produce their own line of high-end bedroom and dining room furniture. Today, Pennwood Products manufactures high quality, pre-finished hardwood moldings. Others products manufactured and available include thin strip flooring, unfinished hardwood moldings, and premium wood fuel pellets. Pennwood premium wood pellets are a true "green" heat source recycled from wood fibers accumulated from our sawing, machining and sanding processes. Pennwood Products remains competitive by consistently investing in equipment and technology while continuing to provide the traditional warmth and beauty of quality wood products. Pennwood is equipped with kiln-drying operations, an automated rough mill, in-house tooling capability, and a production staff committed to the quality and value of every product. The rough mill is very modern and efficient with a helical head carbide insert planer, on-line Melott conveyors, a Barr-Mullin Compu-Rip system, and computer controlled optimizing saws. The Molding Department is equipped with the latest molding technology out of Germany. Finishing began in September 2000 with the installation of the first UV line. Since then, multiple finishing lines and profile sanders have been added. Situated on more than sixteen (16+) acres of land in south central Pennsylvania, this geographic location is strategic to a good lumber supply and to serving the densely populated Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states. The factory is approximately a two (2) hour drive from Philadelphia and Washington and one and one-half (1 1/2) hour drive from the port of Baltimore. This port gives excellent access and competitive containerized freight rates to Europe, Asia, and all parts of the world. We have a highly skilled and loyal workforce. Some of our employees are second generation Pennwood family, continuing and carrying on the tradition of Pennwood excellence. In April of 2002, a third generation of family joined Pennwood, namely, Kraig N. Coxon, the son of Newell Coxon, Jr. Kraig holds the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
