In March 1865, the Battle of Averasboro was the first deliberate, tactical resistance to the infamous march of Federal forces through Georgia and the Carolinas. Today the cannons are silent. The battle-scarred plantation lands are quiet. The Averasboro Battlefield Commission is now preserving the battlefield and many artifacts on this epic struggle in our nation's history.
