The DeSoto Economic Development Corporation (DEDC) is a 4A sales tax corporation that invests sales tax-derived funds on behalf of the community of DeSoto, TX, to encourage additional private investment that will increase and diversity the tax base, create jobs, lower residential taxes, increase the number of shopping and restaurant venues available in the city, and improve DeSoto's quality of life. In 1995 the citizens of DeSoto voted in favor of a local option 3/8% sales tax to create the DEDC and appropriate these sales tax dollars for economic development projects. The DeSoto City Council appoints and oversees an unpaid, five-member board, which is comprised of experienced business leaders in the community. Each of the five board members serves a term of three years and develops policies and operating procedures for the corporation. The DEDC Board regularly meets on the fourth Monday of each month at noon in the DeSoto City Council workroom at 211 E. Pleasant Run Road in DeSoto, TX. All of our meetings are open to the public, and all of our meetings are televised on closed-circuit Comcast cable in DeSoto, TX.
