Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Inc. is an electric distribution cooperative serving the electric energy needs of more than 15,000 members in eight counties of north central Ohio: Delaware, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Marion, Morrow, Richland, and Union. As a not-for-profit cooperative, we are owned and controlled by the members we serve. Members have a voice in the operation and control of the cooperative through their elected Board of Trustees. With a corporate office near Mt. Gilead and a district office in Delaware, the Co-op is strategically located just north of Columbus, Ohio, along the Interstate 71 corridor. The majority of our members live in Morrow and Delaware counties. Approximately 50 percent live in Morrow County; 34 percent live in Delaware County; 7 percent live in Richland County; 6 percent live in Knox County; with the remainder living in Licking, Union, Franklin and Marion counties. We serve predominantly rural areas surrounding urban centers, with about 7.5 members per mile of line. We maintain more than 2,033 miles of power lines and 15 substations, with another substation under development. Originally incorporated in 1936 as Delaware Rural Electric Cooperative and Morrow Electric Cooperative, in 1996 we merged to form Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Inc. Consolidated Electric is one of 24 electric cooperatives in Ohio. Together, we own and operate a generation and transmission cooperative called Buckeye Power, Inc., which owns two of the three generating units in the Cardinal Generating Station located along the Ohio River near Steubenville, OH. These two coal-fired units provide 100% of the electricity required by all of the Cooperative customers in Ohio, in conjunction with a new natural gas-fired peaking generating unit in northwestern Ohio, which came online in 2002.
