UVS was founded in 1992 by Mr. Raj Shah, an accountant and corporate travel executive by profession, who felt a need to start reclaiming foreign taxes incurred by corporate business travelers. Key executives of the UVS team were trained at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (then Coopers and Lybrand) in Birmingham, UK on the policies and procedures of VAT. Also in 1992, UVS became a founding member of International VAT Association (IVA), a European professional organization that assists members in obtaining recent VAT regulations of participating countries and facilitates membership cooperation.
