Info

Iowa State Savings Bank is located in Creston, Iowa where it was established in 1883. The bank's staff, management, directorate and almost all of our stockholders live within 30 miles of our 401 West Adams Street main office. Several of our staff live in communities near Creston, as do many of our customers. We are and always have been locally owned. Senior management of the bank is comprised of two men with long experience in banking. Dave Driskell is the bank's President and a Director. Dave grew up in Greenfield, is a graduate of Southwestern Community College and the University of Northern Iowa, and a former FDIC examiner. Dave functions as the bank's senior lender, supervises the lending function, and is the bank's Trust Officer. Karl Knock is the Chairman of the bank's Board and an Executive Vice President. Karl grew up in Creston, is a graduate of Iowa State University, and is also a former FDIC examiner. Karl supervises the bank's operations, capital, asset-liability management, and strategic planning. Based on the regulatory background of both of our bank's senior officers, "Iowa State Bankers" welcome the second opinions the FDIC and State of Iowa examiners bring through the examination and off-site review processes. Creston was a railroad center when the bank was founded, but as highways proliferated and the railroads declined, especially following construction of the interstate highway system and subsidization of the air transportation industry, Creston declined. Joe Knock was the bank's President through the difficult times of the 1950s, and is remembered as one of the founders of the Creston Development Company, the precursor of today's Union County Development Association. From the 1950s through the 1970s Creston succeeded in replacing approximately 2,000 railroad jobs with industrial jobs in firms that grew up in Creston or relocated to the community through the development company's efforts. Before Joe, the bank was led since 1940 by S. Ray Emerson, who was the Mayor of Creston through the depression and spearheaded many significant community improvements, including the city's purchase of the local water company during the drought of the 1930s, and fund raising for and construction of the Matilda J. Gibson Memorial Library. Frank Phillips, founder of Phillips Petroleum was an officer of the bank in an even earlier era, before leaving Iowa for the Oklahoma oil patch, fame and fortune. Iowa State Savings Bank is a community bank dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of financial services. In providing these services we endeavor to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction. To that end we have been a leader in bringing innovative technologies, products and services to our customers at reasonable prices. Our primary focus is constant: Iowa State Savings Bank will participate in the continuous renewal of our community by enhancing prospects for opportunity and development for individuals, families, and local businesses. The bank's owners, directors, management, staff and many of our customers take considerable pride in the bank's history. Ownership, the directorate, management and staff intend to continue adding to our long and proud history in the community by remaining locally owned and locally oriented, and intimately involved in enhancing economic and other life opportunities within the "Crestonland" environment, including Creston and nearby communities.
