The McGregor Company has been a part of the Inland Empire agriculture for over a century, ever since 1882 when the McGregor brothers came to the Palouse Country and started raising sheep. Our farming experience dates back to 1901 when Archie, John, Peter, and Alex C. McGregor began plowing up some of their pastures and growing wheat. Our company has the distinction of being a pioneer in the Northwest fertilizer and agricultural chemical industries. Back in 1948 a second generation member of this company, Sherman McGregor, started using fertilizer and chemicals on our own farm. Our yields increased rapidly and we began selling fertilizers to our neighbors as well. We started developing anhydrous ammonia machines and coil spring shanks in the early fifties, for no equipment was then available that fit the needs of our region. First begun as a sideline to our general store business at the ranch, under Sherman's leadership the fertilizer, chemical, and equipment business grew steadily. By 1956 it had grown enough to be organized separately from the farm as The McGregor Company. By 1982, the centennial year for the McGregor operations, the company operated seventeen retail outlets in Washington and Idaho and had become the largest independent fertilizer company in the Pacific Northwest. Continuing our objective of slow but steady expansion and long term commitment to the industry, by 2006, The McGregor Company had expanded to serve 42 farm communities in the Inland Northwest. The key to the success of The McGregor Company has always been good people. Many of our employees have been associated with our company for 10, 15, 20 or more years. We salute these people who have contributed so much dedication and hard work to making the company a success. We hope that all of us can work together for many years to come.
