Founded in 1980, Group Benefit Services (GBS) has grown to become one of the largest Third Party Administrators (TPA) in the Mid-Atlantic region. The mainstay of GBS' business model focuses on two primary areas, administering large blocks of fully insured business and serving as a TPA for larger self insured employers. We have continuously evolved our services to support our clients in the most efficient manner possible. This is confirmed by our tremendous growth, having been selected by the Inc. 500 four consecutive years as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the country. As medical risk began shifting from the payor community to the provider community and from the government to the private sector, we recognized a significant business opportunity in lending our administrative expertise to these emerging and established entities. As such, we created Innovative Outsourcing (IO) in early 1997 to address a fundamental challenge facing health care organizations - how to reduce costs and increase efficiencies without sacrificing quality. To meet this challenge, we have created a turnkey administrative infrastructure that can be deployed to our clients in an effort to maximize core competencies. Our state-of-the-art information systems provide health care organizations with robust tools for managing, collecting, and distributing information fundamental to operating centrally managed provider networks. In August 1999, we combined our marketing efforts to capitalize on our respective expertise. This combination has created a compelling business model that is uniquely positioned on a national basis to address the needs of Brokers/Consultants, Employers, Members, Providers, and Payors. Together our companies support over 8,000 employer groups, 300,000 members, and several thousand providers of care while employing over 200 dedicated professionals.
