Oregon Iron Works, Inc. (OIW) produces components for the Ground Based Missile Defense Program (GMD), components include SIVs and SCMs. OIW is the primary supplier of the hardware for Boeings Ground Based Mid-Course Defense (GMD) Program. OIW has been the sole manufacturer of the GMD hardware from original prototype through the production phase. OIW fabricates weldments that are 12 feet by 75 feet in length that weigh 72 tons. Critical dimensions of .015 inch are required for proper vehicle alignment. OIW utilized a laser coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to verify compliance with these exacting tolerances. All components were manufactured under strict controls. Material traceability and process controls are maintained in strict compliance with audited and approved program procedures. Of OIW's 350 hourly shop technicians, we currently employee over 100 that are fully trained project specific craftsmen with a minimum of 6 years of experience working in the program.
