In just seven years, the Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education has established itself in the community. This unique organization is a true Cincinnati success story; one that highlights how vision and commitment can change a community. It is with immense pride that we announce, The Center has been launched as a freestanding 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, now more equipped than ever to serve, partner, and educate! The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education was founded when the Combined Generations of the Holocaust-a group of Holocaust survivors and their families-reached out to Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) to foster a new center dedicated to teaching the Cincinnati community about the Holocaust and its lessons. The Center acknowledges and thanks HUC-JIR for nurturing it thus far. To guide this newly independent organization, Dean Richard Friedman was elected President of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education. The Center continues to be located in Mayerson Hall on Clifton Avenue. Dean Friedman has served the community in a number of leadership roles, including board President of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Hillel Foundation, as well as the past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Heart Association, Cincinnati affiliate, along with a number of other current board appointments. Dean Friedman is currently the Director of Alumni Relations of the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences and was the Special Assistant to the President of the University of Cincinnati for a number of years. Friedman said, " I am eager to lead the Board and The Center into the next phase of its' development while continuing to educate the community about the Holocaust and its lessons, so that no one can, ever, say they didn't know." Sarah Weiss, Acting Director of The Center is enthusiastic about the independence and new leadership and shares, "guided by this outstanding leadership, The Center is poised to continue providing high quality educational initiatives to both religious and secular communities. We have an extraordinary opportunity to build on past success, extend our work, and better meet the needs of our community through educational initiatives, teacher training, and broad collaboration.
