Info

NTI Upstream is an educational multimedia production company and community solutions training center. We specialize in providing resources focusing on the healthy development of children and their families. The "Upstream" in our name refers to the importance of addressing a problem at its source, rather than merely trying to manage its effects. Our philosophy comes from a simple story: A person standing near a river hears a call for help and sees someone drowning. He jumps in and pulls the struggling swimmer out of the water and resuscitates him. As he finishes resuscitating the first swimmer, a second cries out. Again, he enters the water and with great effort hauls the second drowning person ashore. A third person calls out for help and he jumps to the rescue and nearly drowns in the effort, but manages to pull the third person out of the river. An admiring crowd has gathered when a fourth person calls for help and our hero walks away. Someone in the crowd shouts, "Where are you going? What about this person who is drowning?" He turns and says, "I'm tired of rescuing people from the river. I'm going upstream to find out who's pushing them in." NTI Upstream's products and community solutions training focus on the prevention and treatment of substance abuse during pregnancy and addressing the early intervention and treatment needs of children affected by prenatal exposure to alcohol and other drugs. NTI Upstream specializes in translating information and knowledge developed through research and clinical care into educational programs and materials for both professionals and the public. All of the materials produced by NTI Upstream are research-based and include the most accurate and up-to-date, clinically-based information available. NTI Upstream produces books, brochures, videos, software, learning materials for the classroom setting, and training curricula for community outreach programs. NTI Upstream works directly with parents, teachers, healthcare professionals, adoption and foster care workers, and the legal community , anyone who works with children.
