Info
Johnson Publishing Company, Inc. (JPC) is the world's largest African-American-owned and-operated publishing company. With established businesses, all at the top of their industries, in publishing, cosmetics, television production and fashion, JPC brands are household names and, more importantly, trusted sources to African-Americans around the globe. The late publisher and chairman, John H. Johnson, established the privately held company in November 1942 with NEGRO DIGEST. What started as nothing more than a dream and a $500 loan on his mother's furniture has turned into a multimillion dollar empire. He died in August 2005. His daughter, Linda Johnson Rice, is President & CEO. Through its brands, which include EBONY and JET magazines, Fashion Fair Cosmetics, EBONY Fashion Fair and JPC Book Division, Johnson Publishing Company has always aimed at increasing African-Americans' pride in themselves by presenting their past and present achievements to America and to the world. This has been done by portraying the Black American experience in all its dynamics through the medium of printed words, images, cosmetics and fashion. Through the years the company has also labored to provide irrefutable proof to millions of Black Americans, young and old, that their dreams can and do come true. The entire Johnson Publishing Company family shares a deep commitment to meet consumer demands by producing quality products. Because of this commitment, JPC brands strive to continually give inspiration and hope to millions. Johnson Publishing Company is headquartered in Chicago but has a global reach with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Detroit, London and Paris.
