Anchor Graphics was founded in 1988, and became operational in 1990, for the purpose of advancing the fine art printmaking tradition by providing educational and art-making opportunities for both young people and professional artists, and by educating the public about the fine art Printmaking process. Since 1996, Anchor Graphics has occupied a 3665 sq.ft. space in the River North area. This site is over twice the size of our previous space on Damen Avenue and consists of a gallery, separate lithography and etching areas, an office, kitchen and an archives room. The studio is located adjacent to the gallery, allowing visitors to see the production of prints in various stages, up to the finished results. Since 1990 Anchor Graphics has consistently maintained our mission of offering FREE printmaking opportunities for Chicago youth, adult evening courses, access to the facilities for artists, exhibitions of artists' works that push the boundaries of printmaking, and community programs, including free public lecture/demonstrations by exhibiting artists, tours, and afternoon workshops. Past and current collaborative relationships include the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Marwen, Gallery 37, Daniel J. Nellum Youth Services, the Chicago International Artists Program, and Chicago area high schools and community groups. Our newer offerings include an Artist-in-Residency Program for professional printmakers, and POW (press on wheels).
