Management Services Corporation ("MSC") is the largest property management firm in the Central Virginia area. MSC manages over 4,000 residential units, including apartments, townhouses, duplexes, houses, mobile home parks and cottages in Charlottesville, Richmond, Roanoke, Salem, Manassas, Farmville and Harrisonburg, Virginia. Douglas E. Caton (CEO) and Richard H. Jones (President) founded the Charlottesville-based company in 1973 primarily to manage Doug's own real estate investments. Rick and Doug were joined by Lee Wood (Senior Vice President) in 1982. With the rampant growth of the University of Virginia community in the 1970s and 1980s, MSC was able to expand and diversify its services to manage properties for other individuals, banks, and investment groups. In the 1980s, Management Services Corporation began its continual growth out of Charlottesville into other areas of the state. In the mid-1990s, MSC began a series of substantial rehabilitation projects. Woodrow Apartments in Charlottesville was a $1.2 million project completed in 1997. Rehabilitation projects in excess of $12 million were completed in Charlottesville and Richmond at Four Seasons Apartments and Harbor Village Apartments respectively. In 2003, a substantial rehabilitation of the Rugby McIntyre Apartments in Charlottesville was completed. In 1997, MSC undertook its first new-development project in Roanoke with the construction of a 140-unit luxury apartment community known as Glade Creek. Two smaller projects, Wertland Manor and Maupin House, were built in Charlottesville in 1999. A luxury student community in Harrisonburg called Sunchase was completed in 2000 and contruction of a second phase of Glade Creek in Roanoke was completed Fall 2001. In 2003, construction was completed on Sunchase at Longwood, a luxury apartment and commercial community in Farmville. The Madhouse, a state-of-the-art clubhouse and the new headquarters for MSC was built in June of 2004. Most recently was the completion of an extensive rehabilitation to Rugby Apartments, located on University Circle. In Spring of 2006, MSC will open a Hampton Inn which will be located adjacent to Sunchase at Longwood. The success of MSC is attributable to a team approach and high service standards. More than 160 full-time and 50 part-time personnel employed throughout Virginia enable Management Services Corporation to provide the same level of personal dedication today as it did as a small company over 30 years ago.
