Description of The Southeast Public Health Training Center
The Southeast Public Health Training Center (SPHTC) represents a partnership between academic and practice partners in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The Center's primary focus is on training dissemination, public health nursing and rural public health. Our academic partners are: East Tennessee State University, University of Kentucky College of Public Health, the Norman J. Arnold School of Public Health at University of South Carolina and West Virginia University. The SPHTC is located at the NC Institute for Public Health at the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is part of the National Public Health Training Center Network. The SPHTC's mission is to: assess and strengthen competency-based training delivery systems with regard to academic and practice linkages; build state and regional capacity for workforce development share best practices locally, regionally and nationally support and enhance regional collaboration andrespond to requests from state and local health departments for training. Fourteen Public Health Training Centers across the United States have been funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to strengthen the core competencies and capabilities of the current and future public health workforce," particularly in under-served are as. The core competencies are critical to the delivery of the 10 essential services and are the foundation on which preparedness competencies are built. These 14 centers comprise the National Network of Public Health Training Centers.
