Johnston McLamb was formed in August of 1991 by Ron Johnston and Dick McLamb. Their vision was to create a unique, non-traditional, expert consulting company which focused on three major principles: Using leading-edge technology to accomplish rapid delivery of information systems solutions to clients in a market that had become increasingly wary of current trends and costs associated with enterprise-wide software engineering approaches. Attracting and retaining some of the brightest minds in the industry by creating and implementing a corporate culture and environment that (1) provides non-subjective, predictable, immediate rewards to employees based on quantifiable performance measures; (2) gives each employee vested interest in the success of the company and causes them to think more like business owners; and (3) gives each employee significant influence over how the company is run and makes management more accountable to the staff at large. Having held senior positions with consulting firms in the past, Ron and Dick recognized many of the inherent problems that traditional consulting firms experienced with respect to employee morale and retention. They believed that many of these problems could be solved by creating an organization that implemented the above-stated principles. Starting the business with only $1500 in capital, Johnston McLamb faced the challenges of becoming financially viable, quickly attracting top-level staff, and creating name recognition that could be leveraged quickly. These challenges were quickly met by adhering to sound financial practices and the above principles on which the company was founded.
