Roots and Vines Wine Tours is the product of two similar visions. Miguel Boscana, of Reelside Productions has been tasting and collecting fine wines for over 25 years. There are few wineries in California he hasn't visited. James Adams of Exclusive Productions has almost 20 years experience. For the past 15 years, Miguel and James have done a tremendous amount of wine tasting together and comparing notes. Both were very aware of the noticeable absence of African Americans and other people of color at wine festivals, special winery events, charity fundraising wine tastings, etc. Miguel occasionally conducted private wine tasting tours for small groups of friends. James and his wife Cassandra would lead private tours and/or car caravans to the wine country. Cassandra (12 years experience) would frequently suggest bringing a busload of people to the wine country. In effect, they were both already operating tour companies. One day, Miguel jokingly said he should quit his job and become a professional wine tasting guide. James mentioned Cassandra's idea of taking people to the wine country. They casually brainstormed the logistics of using large buses and the impersonal nature of having large groups. One of the three mentioned a mini-bus alternative, and within a couple of hours, the improbable was determined to be easily doable, and Roots and Vines Wine Tours was born. Since the inaugural tour in November of 1995, Roots & Vines has expanded to seven standard routes (5 Sonoma, 1 Livermore, 1 Napa). In addition, we host Winemaker Dinners, conduct wine tastings and seminars, and providing consulting services for wine tasting fund raisers. Roots and Vines Wine Tours has one main objective: eliminate the mysteries that surround fine wine and its culture, and have a good time in the process. Our focus is wine education. The last thing we'll do is to just take you to the door of an winery and say 'Okay, go check it out.'. We will give you the information and tools you need to make your wine tasting experience a memorable one. We know we cannot turn you into an expert or a connoisseur of wines in a day. Instead, we hope to pique your curiosity and unlock the door leading to (hopefully) many a great wine and food experience.
