Hilltop National Bank was founded in Casper in 1964. The original location was in the Hilltop Shopping Center on East 2nd street. The founding investors were local businessmen who were convinced that our area would support a new, service-oriented community bank. The assets of the bank grew enough that capitalization regulations required additional funds to be infused into the bank on more than one occasion. Tiring of capital calls induced by successful growth, the businessmen considered a purchase offer by another local businessman, Dave True, in 1977. Hilltop remains a company of the True family today, and Mr. True was selected as a finalist (posthumously) as Wyoming's Citizen of the Century by the American Heritage Center of the University of Wyoming. The newly acquired company retained its previous managers and staff, and moved into a new 90,000 sq. ft. facility in 1979. The Main Office, as it is now called, sits prominently on a hill at Country Club Road and 4th Street overlooking Hilltop Shopping Center. Its time and temperature clock on the northeast tower is an east Casper landmark. This location offers numerous office suites for lease - call (307) 265-2740 for availability. The owners and managers chartered a new bank to serve the west end of Casper at the Mountain Plaza Shopping Center in 1981. During the difficult economy of the mid-1980s, HNB was approached by the FDIC to assume the assets of two failed banks in the Casper area. The transitions represented a great deal of work for our staff, but Hilltop was better able to service and safeguard the deposits than the less-financially sound institutions in the community. In this decade, Hilltop has added offices in Glenrock, Downtown Casper and at the east side Safeway. As a group, we continue to grow safely and to enjoy top customer service ratings (according to a survey of 1,000 area residents by a local research firm in 1998).
