St. Lawrence NYSARC operates a fixed route transportation system to provide daily transportation for consumers to and from all of the agency's program sites. Professional drivers maintain the appropriate license (CDL with Passenger Endorsement) to operate all fixed route vehicles. All drivers are certified by the NYS Bus Driver Certification Unit pursuant to Article 19-A of the Motor Vehicle and Traffic Law and all are required to complete a Defensive Driving Course once every three years. All fixed routes, with the exception of those routes providing transportation exclusively to agency work centers, are also staffed with one or more attendants, depending on the needs of the consumers. The attendants are primarily responsible for the well being and safety of the consumers during transport. Approximately 25 vehicles, mostly 15-passenger vans and various size buses, are utilized on a daily basis to provide fixed route transpiration services to nearly 425 individuals.
