Info

Morgan Management was founded in 1953 when Mr. William A. Morgan bought Dight's Diner located at the corner of Washington and Jefferson streets in Butler, Pennsylvania. This was the beginning of a restaurant chain serving Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and into West Virginia. The next was a Wonder Boy Drive-In at the top of North Main Street Hill in Bon Aire. It had the first Teletray curb service in Pennsylvania. In 1955, the business expanded when Mr. Morgan became the fifth Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise holder in the United States. A KFC carry out was added to the Diner. From there, the restaurant chain grew to 52 locations all having a coffee shop, dining room and KFC carry out, a half dozen having car service with car hops. In 1969, the business broadened to include the first modern Automatic Car Wash in Butler. It was located on Route 8 North. Seven years later, the second Automatic Car Wash on New Castle Road was built with the addition of five self-service bays. In 2003, the Automatic Car Wash on New Castle Road was converted to a new modern Laserwash with 3 touchfree bays and 2 self-service bays. Morgan Management also operated Pennsylvania's largest refrigerated fleet consisting of 50 tractor trailer trucks hauling mushrooms from the Butler County Mushroom farm, a recreational vehicle dealership and contracting of Sylex Homes, all in the Butler area. The restaurant chain was sold in 1970 but Mr. Morgan's retirement lasted only 2 years. In 1972, he purchased the Spaide Shirt Factory building, which was built in 1918. It was converted into a beautiful, professional office complex. The Brugh Avenue building, known as the Morgan Management Building, received the Honor Award for Excellence in Design, which is the highest award in the United States, shortly after the renovation. The building was destroyed by fire in June of 2003. Listed below are a few of his accomplishments: - One of the original twelve men who started the Sparkplug Committee of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce.
