The firm strives for a comprehensive practice with particular emphasis in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, business, and litigation. Our real estate practice includes a separate title company, one of the busiest in Mid­Coast Maine. The real estate practice includes all aspects of real estate development and commercial real estate transactions. Our business and commercial practice encompasses a large and varied cross section of business clients, including large companies preparing public offerings, new and developing small businesses, and non­profit and non­shareholder entities. We represent these clients in pending litigation and also provide planning advice to avoid future litigation. Our litigation practice spans all state and federal courts, with representation at trials and appeals. The litigation practice includes divorce and related family law (including child custody disputes), corporate, business, and commercial, work­outs and secured transactions, personal injury matters, malpractice, zoning and probate proceedings. We also handle other matters directly supportive of our clients, such as foreclosures, mechanic's lien actions, and collections. When confronted with issues in areas in which we do not emphasize our practice, we consult with counsel from other offices (primarily specialty practice firms) for advice in matters such as securities regulation, federal employment law and serious criminal offenses. By doing this, we are able to offer comprehensive service to our clients while maintaining the benefits of a "smaller firm" relationship, which offers a more personal, responsive relationship between lawyer and client. Our practice representing plaintiffs has produced payments to our clients at many different levels including some in seven figures. We have represented commercial clients in mergers involved in the mid eight figure range and in workouts involving as much as five million dollars in debt. We have gone to trial in cases ranging from complicated child custody disputes to real estate and commercial matters. We are general counsel to several substantial Maine­based companies and have acted as counsel in sales and business transactions as large as thirty million dollars. Our clientele includes banks, mortgage companies, businesses, partnerships, municipalities, special use districts and individuals.
